Samsung introduced a pair of handsets SCH-W510[CDMA] & SGH-F268[GSM] that are use bioplastic material made from cornstarch that excludes some environmentally un-friendly materials such as brominated flame retardants and polyvinyl chlorides.

The SCH-W510 ‘Bio Cover Phone’ is a CDMA slider that contains cornstarch for its bioplastic material used on the device’s battery cover and utilized a environmentally-friendly metal finishing process as well as an anti-bacterial material on its surface. It has even been bestowed the “green label” from the Korea Eco-Products Institute.

The sleek SGH-F268 GSM handset decided to keep harmful materials at bay by removing brominated flame retardants (BFR) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from its list during manufacturing. The F368 sales package also includes a headset and charger that are also environmentally friendly.

Samsung has also announced that it will stop using BFRs for new models to be developed from 2009 and PVC from 2010.
